I don’t like it when people talk shit about my “friends” online, on blogs, in semi-anonymous comments. There is something that happens when you run your mouth in negativity against another person and it chills me every time I see it happen. You could call it karma. I don’t. I call it “how you get paid”.

How do YOU get paid? Do you feel better about yourself because you ran someone down in “the street where they live, where they work online?”; Do you get paid by being a martyr for the people, standing up against advertising and media people? Do you get paid by the pure joy of the rant?

Perhaps you could think about that a little longer before you bad mouth other people in your industry … the people in your industry who you may be looking to for your next job, promotion or recommendation. If you’re not from the industry WTF do you want from real people doing their real jobs?

It is tempting to want to be contrary as a way to stand out. Creativity doesn’t need to discredit others in order to be seen or heard. When you make a comment on an industry blog or paper … and you hesitate about signing your name or your blog … then ask yourself again “how do I get paid?”.

With all affection,

MM. xoxo

“Mistress Mia” is a persona that was born as fun experiment to cut through the noise in the saturated internet marketing niche and to explore the possibilities of social media and online communities. I’ve done some cool stuff, got banned on Facebook, met fantastic people from online in real life and made some lifelong friends.

I adore twitter and you can find me ranting there most days: @mistressmia

This blog has been a phoenix reborn after a year in the wilderness of “what’s the point” after it had been hacked for the third time.

I will keep the content here around these themes:

How do you get paid? – An important filter to apply to “stuff we do”.

Friendship and Intimacy – It’s not how many friends you have it is about the depth of the relationships.

Prodigal go home! – In the absence of any clear direction of how to move forward – Go home!

With all affection.

MM. xoxo
